Maggies - Maggies Cancer Care
May 4/5th
If stunning scenery and a 24-hour challenge is your thing, then this is definitely the event for you. You’ll cycle 30 miles and then hike 43 miles from Fort William to Inverness – a grand total of 73 miles!
As you follow the Great Glen Way from under the shadow of Ben Nevis you’ll cross over the Caledonian Canal, hike through forests and farmland along the length of Loch Ness. By the time you reach Inverness you will be both exhausted and elated at having completed such a fantastic challenge.
Now in its eighth year the 4,500 people who have taken part in Maggie’s Monster Bike and Hike have raised over £3.6 million to help build and run Maggie’s cancer support centres across the UK. The centres offer free practical, emotional and psychological support to people with cancer, together with their families and carers.

Etap Caledonia – May 12th -Marie Curie
The Etape Caledonia is an 81 mile cycle challenge taking place on traffic-free roads in the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire.
The event on 13th May 2012 is open to individuals between the ages of 18 and 80.
To ensure that the roads are reopened to the schedule agreed with the authorities, participants will need to maintain an average speed of 13mph around the course. This gives at least 6h 15mins to reach the finishing line within the closure window. Even if you are unable to meet this average speed you can continue on open roads and complete the full circuit

Trossachs Ton– Action Medical Research

The Trossachs Ton ride is fast establishing itself as one of the ‘must do’ cycle events in Scotland, be sure to book your place early. The Trossachs region is an area of outstanding beauty with the big climbs that cyclists crave, including the Duke’s Pass. The 13-mile almost traffic-free section of Loch Katrine is a joy to ride with a mixture of climbs, tight bends and descents along the waters edge. Choose either the 100km or tougher 100-mile route

Rob Roy Challenge - Martin Currie
June 22rd
Now in its seventh year, the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge has become one of Scotland’s most successful fundraising events.
Starting at Drymen, participants follow in the footsteps of the outlaw and folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor with a 16 mile hike through the beautiful Trossachs to Callander. Then it’s ‘on yer bike’ for the tough 39 mile ride to Killin and along the south side of Loch Tay to the finish at Kenmore.
Friends and family can join you on Saturday evening for our legendary Hog Roast Feast, lively ceilidh and world class fireworks, followed by camping or accommodation in local hotels and a Sunday morning breakfast.
The Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge is an unforgettable weekend that has raised £1.8 million for good causes in its first five years. 2011’s event raised an estimated £400,000 of three superb charities: Alzheimer Scotland, NSPCC and Sightsavers

Kindrochit Quadrathlon - Artemis

One day. Four challenges. Have you got what it takes?
Test your stamina, strength and nerve as you swim, hike/run, paddle and pedal through the stunning grandeur of Loch Tay and the Ben Lawers mountain range in the Scottish Highlands. This event is for teams of two and is designed for fit individuals as well as experienced athletes.
Now in its twelfth year, the Kindrochit Quadrathlon combines four tests of your strength and endurance:
- Swim 0.8mile across Loch Tay
- Navigate and climb 7 Munros
- Kayak 7 miles
- Cycle 34 miles round Loch Tay
The clock only stops when you take the sword and slice a watermelon in two, before a fabulous post-event party feast and fireworks on the banks of Loch Tay. After all the sweat and tears it is a chance to finally kick back and celebrate what you have achieved yourself and for others

Invesco Perpetual Highland Adventure Race - Mitchemp Trust.
September 8th
The Invesco Perpetual Highland Adventure Race is a great team building event, held annually, in aid of the Mitchemp Trust. This year, it takes place in the rugged terrain and beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Teams of 4-6 people will cycle, hike and canoe 60 miles in 24 hours, from east to west Scotland, in an effort to be crowned Winner of the Invesco Perpetual Highland Adventure Race 2011.

Pedal for Scotland /Sky ride
September 8th
The classic freshnlo Pedal for Scotland ride, the challenge ride is now in its 14th year. The 47 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh ride is Scotland's biggest bike ride and attracted 8000 participants last year.
The reason for the ride's huge popularity is the combination of a great route that uses a mixture of closed roads, quiet back roads and cycle paths and the fact that it takes in Scotland's two largest cities via stunning countryside. It's the perfect challenge for both regular cyclists and those who haven't cycled in a while - a few weeks training is enough to get in shape.
There are rest stops around every ten miles serving free refreshments, plus a free lunch at the beautiful Linlithgow Palace, topped of with entertainment and activities in Edinburgh, making for the perfect active day out for groups of friends, family or work mates
Sportive.
The freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Sportive is a new ride of 100 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh. The route takes riders through the Southern Uplands and down into Ediburgh passing through 7 local authorities and incorporating the best sections of numerous Scottish cycle racing circuits, including the A77 10 Mile Time Trial, sections of the Moscow APR and the Strathaven Anderside Classic, incorporating steeps climbs around Muirkirk and undulating stretches across wild moorland . The Sportive is a much more challenging ride for regular cyclists
Family ride
Looking for a reason to get back on your bike again, or fancy taking the kids for their first foray into big cycling events? Cycling Scotland is proud to introduce the new Edinburgh Family Ride. Aimed at cyclists based in the east and best of all: entry is absolutely free. The Ride is open from 9.30 until 10.30am, when the section of route will be at its quietestide
Sky ride
For newcomers to cycling or families with younger children, the Sky ride offers an amazing traffic-free city ride in Glasgow that allows you to see the sights but avoid the cars and buses.
Taking a closed-road route along the Clyde River, the Sky ride takes in many of Glasgow's iconic buildings including the new Riverside Museum that will be open for riders to visit. Best of all, entry is absolutely free.

Ratrace Scotland Coast to Coast

Imagine a route that traverses one of the most famous mountain landscapes in the world by bike, foot and boat; a journey that covers just over 100 miles, including a marathon-worth on foot; a journey that takes in some of the most iconic locations and amazing views in the Scottish Highlands: Loch Ness, the Great Glen, Ben Nevis and Glen Coe.
This is a challenge open to all adventurers. Some will come to win; some purely to finish; many just to take part. All will leave having enjoyed being active with friends in this spectacular setting. Scotland Coast to Coast is a truly defining journey through the mystery and lore of this ancient landscape.
