Kintyre Way ultramarathon/Cycle

6th May

The Kintyre Way Ultra Marathon is being expanded and relaunched for 2017 to include a 73 mile cycle race, new sponsors and a host of event improvements.
The Kintyre Way Ultra, which first ran in 2006, has grown in popularity year-on-year.  May 2016 saw 80 individual runners and 16 relay teams taking part in the gruelling 35 mile marathon which includes a 1300 metre ascent over three stages, set against the idyllic backdrop of the Kintyre peninsula.

The new cycle race begins at Corranbuie, South of Tarbert, and ends at a new finishing point in Campbeltown which will be set up to cater for both runners and cyclists.  Dubbed the ‘Ultra village’, this will provide food, drink, music, sports massage, workshops, activities, and a kids fun area; catering for runners, riders, their bikes and families.

Improved facilities will also enable the event to expand, with up to 200 able to take part in the marathon / relay race, and up to 100 taking part in the cycle race.

The 2017 event will consist of a 35 mile Ultra marathon, 35 mile relay race and 73 mile cycle race.  It will take part on Saturday 6th May 2017.

The Kintyre Way first opened in 2006 after many years of planning and discussions with the Forestry Commission and local landowners.  Originally 87 miles long, it was recently extended to its present-day 100 mile route in 2014.

Rob Roy Challenge - Martin Currie

TBC June

The Rob Roy Challenge is a fund raising event that is now entering its 11th year. It was launched in 2006 and has enabled over 5,500 hardy souls to battle the Scottish wilderness and raise almost £3million for a number of worthy charities. It has been one of the most successful fundraising events in Scotland and with your support it will continue to grow and benefit charities for years into the future.
After the successful 10th year in 2015, the event sees an update to the route to simplify logistics for competitors while adding an enhanced variety of challenging route options. With a central base now at Kenmore competitors no longer need to provide their own support teams, however we do encourage friends and family to come along to support challengers at Kenmore and to enjoy the Rob Roy Challenge Festival weekend.
Also, for the first time we are offering two cycle-only options; covering the cycle sections of Big Red and Schiehallion’s Shadow.
